Meet Trudy
"I was getting ready to go
off the deep end. I had already tried to commit suicide
twice before.” Trudy has lived half a lifetime
— 30 years — in San Francisco. A participant
in one-on-one counseling sessions at New Leaf, Trudy
says, “They virtually saved my life after I
left my husband and then lost my job. It just looked
like all hell was coming down on me. New Leaf was
half a block away. I walked over there and said, 'I
need help.'”
Trudy, who has a teaching degree
and has worked a variety of jobs, including driving
a cab, working in a library, and being a security
guard, loves playing games and watching the Sundance
Channel. Trudy says about New Leaf, “I
feel extremely safe with my counselors. It’s
like going in to talk to my sisters.
If something happens to New Leaf, I will really be
hurting. New Leaf is my hope.”
